Here is a list of the 10 most common problems encountered when installing hardwood floors, with solutions to help you ensure a professional and long-lasting result:
1. Unleveled floor
Problem : Uneven ground can lead to wobbly boards, gaps between boards, or creaking.
Solution : Check the level of your subfloor using a spirit level or laser. If necessary, apply a leveling compound or correct any raised areas by sanding them to obtain a flat and even surface before starting the installation.
2. Poorly prepared subfloor
Problem : A dirty, damp, or poorly fixed subfloor can cause adhesion problems or wood movement after installation.
Solution : Thoroughly clean the subfloor to remove dust and debris. Ensure it is completely dry and nail or screw any loose boards in place. For floating floors, install a suitable underlayment (vapor barrier or soundproofing).
